Ban on evictions extended by 2 months to protect renters
Residential tenants have now been given further protection as the government has extended the suspension of evictions for a further two months.
Where tenants do experience financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic, the government is urging landlords and tenants to work together and exhaust all possible options, such as flexible payment plans to ensure cases only end up in Court as a last resort.
The Courts will still issue claims, but they are currently being automatically stayed and not been served on the tenants.
However, tenants should be aware that the rent is not written off and will continue to be payable. Furthermore, landlords are still issuing possession claims, even though they will not be listed for a hearing to ensure they will be at the head of the queue when the suspension is lifted.
